This is a response to a challenge by the Author of Lord Caer of Azkaban to write a story where Harry learns his heritage after being sentenced there. I highly recommend reading that story, not because it’s required to understand this, but because it’s an excellent story in it’s own right. I can only hope to make this story half as good as that one.

This is AU, beginning near the end of Harry’s fifth year. I won’t explain exactly, you should be able to pick that up from the story.

Harry loses his magical powers when attacked by the DADA teacher but is somehow transformed into a Mage, which are subject to imprisonment and blinding in the Wizarding world.

Harry is trying to drain three magical rocks, called the keys, containing enormous power, before Voldemorte can get to them.

Harry is blinded and put in prison but escapes in attempt to get to one of the keys.  Ron is murdered by Wormtail but Hermione brings him back, turning him into a sythe. Seamus is bitten during an "away mission" and becomes a
werewolf.  His family rejects him.
Hermione believes Draco to have a soft side. Draco is intent on exploiting her.  Rons warnings to Hermione fall on deaf ears.

Ginny's boyfriend Dean is a wisecracking quoter of Star Wars and Monty Python dialogue.  He cheats on her with Parvati and is killed and Dumbledore dies during the attack on Drumstrang.  Charlie Weasley is missing.

Harry feels guilty and fears the power is making him evil....

A warning ahead: The story is not easy to read. Especially the first half is even more confusing than razz's Tergum Rursus: Different and often changing POV's, spiked with flashbacks to explain the events of the war with Voldemort and the last battle. Huge parts of the story are based on the emotions and thoughts of various people dealing with the result of the war and their feelings for or mostly against Harry, their hate, suspicion and doubt. It is quite angsty until the end – for instance Harry is highly affected by the dementors.

For those who intend to read the story: Bear in mind it's a story started long before OotP was published. Pierre and Amanita Lestrange are in fact Rololphs and Bellatrix – only their surname had been mentioned in GOF; Trelawney's Prophecy hadn't been mentioned yet; etc.
